CTC Assam

Tea as the Indians drink it. This Assam has a striking amber color, rich flavor, and is full bodied as well. It is a key ingredient in several of our blends, including the East Frisian and Indian Spice. It takes milk and sugar and can also be enjoyed solo. An “espresso-style” tea!

About CTC Assam

Dry Leaves Dark leaves, cut into small uniform pieces. (Cut, tear, curl)
Liquor Dark brown.
Aroma Assertive, sweet-charred aromas like with roasted sweet onions.
Caffeine Level Caffeinated
Body This is about as full bodied a tea as we sell. It is intensely brisk or astringent. Most people like to add milk.
Flavors Most people drink this tea for its strength, the flavors are secondary, especially if milk and sugar are added. There are subtle roasted malt notes.
Brewing Time 4 to 5 minutes
Brewing Temperature 212° F
Our Review
CTC means the tea has been processed in a " Cut, Tear, and Curl" machine. Tea leaves are shoved in the top, totally destroyed and then reformed into pellets. These pellets turn brown (oxidize ) very quickly. This makes for the super-brisk tea. Most tea is made like this in Assam because it easy to make and there is much demand for this style.

A bright tea with lots of pep!
Average Review:

Who needs coffee when one can enjoy a cup (or several cups in my case) of this brisk, malty and mighty brew? While I love all kinds of teas, similar to Danyelle, I find myself drinking this one the most. I prefer lemon and sugar in mine, it bring out the briskness; my husband enjoys it with milk.

In the morning I can't start my day without CTC Assam, it delivers caffeine to my heart's content without the jitters (and eventual crash) where coffee so often disappoints. CTC is a tea worthy of kings, but priced for the common man. Harney and Sons could double the price and I'd still buy it by the pound and feel like I'm getting a bargain.

Staple Tea
Average Review:

This tea is my every day staple. Of all the teas I have, this is the one I pull of the shelf the most. It makes a strong, full bodied, and sturdy cup. I often have friends over for tea in my dorm room. Every one always asks for CTC Assam. I take a mug to my morning classes, I drink a pot while I'm doing homework, and I have a cup after work. It is wonderful any time of the day!

Inexpensive and wonderful

Don't let the low price fool you--this makes a great cup of tea. I keep a tin of it at work and drink several cups a day. Infinitely better than the office coffee, and it even stands up to the cremated ferret I put in it when I run out of half and half.

Full bodied maltiness.
Average Review:

I like Harney's Irish Breakfast but i love the CTC Assam. Full bodied and offering a great mouthiness, almost a chewiness and a deep maltiness, this is a reasonably priced Assam with the best characteristics of its type. Great with or without milk, a perfect cup, particularly in the morning and on cold days.

Asaam CT
Average Review:

I hae tastd the Irish and English Breakfast teas and fing the the Asam CT a bolder and better tea. I use two rounded tablespoons per pot (about 20 oz. I use a French press and find that I brew a perfect pot with a brew time of 6 minutes. Have fun and good uck. PC

Malty Goodness
Average Review:

While I love Irish Breakfast tea, I find this less expensive option to be just as satisfying. Strong, malty, and a great stimulant for breakfast or during the work day.
