 Master Tea Blender
Last Winter, my wife, Elyse, and I went to the Club Med Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. This was for an annual food festival hosted by the Club Med and included all sorts of French chefs and other foodies. I was supposed to work by offering tea tastings for the resort’s guests. And you may be assured that all who attended left with a smile on their face. However I was in heaven with all that delicious food, and my wife got her share of fine wines (wine not being my cup of tea). The piece de resistance was the opportunity to go back to this tropical resort. The last time we were there was for our Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary. That was a few years ago, so we reminisced about the changes in the grandchildren (including the addition of the new one: Finn). We sure wished that the family was here enjoying this time with us.
The other wish was the ability to communicate to all those French people. Of course, this has been a wish ever since Michael married his French bride many decades ago. Now we have an opportunity with Claire, our intern from France. She is working at the tea company helping to Harney & Sons more international. Claire needed a place to stay and so we offered our abode. Every day she teaches us another French word or two. Who says an old dog can’t learn new tricks. In exchange, I teach her about tea. This seems like a fair exchange.

Elaine's Special Blend
 Little did Elaine Cogan realize she was launching a revolution when her complaints about the poor quality of restaurant tea were printed on the editorial page of the New York Times. When the Times responded in agreement with an editorial entitled Tea Snobs and Coffee Bigots, Elaine was inundated with letters and phone calls from tea lovers all over the country. It was 1983, the same year we at Harney & Sons started our business, and John Harney and Elaine became friends and colleagues, both anxious to spread the word about how to select and brew good tea. They have been gratified to see understanding and taste for high quality tea spread. Still, Elaine was not completely satisfied until she created her own Special Blend, a smooth tea that is refreshing all times of day or night. We are proud to offer this unique combination of fine Darjeeling, Keemun, Ceylon and Assam teas to our discriminating tea drinkers.

We are proud to be the tea suppliers to the hotel that won the UK Tea Council's Top London Afternoon Tea Award for 2007: The Dorchester Hotel.
