Kangaita OP

In Africa it is rare to find an orthodox black tea, so of course we enthusiastically said 'Yes!' to Kangaita OP as soon as we tasted it. Full bodied like some of our Ceylons (such as Kenilworth), it also has an additional sweetness.

I first bought a 4 oz. tin of this tea and it sat in my pantry until I ran out of my favorite (Supreme English Breakfast). Then I switched to this for my morning tea and I was very pleasantly surprised. I really love this tea. I would describe it as a nice, medium-bodied black tea with a subtle floral scent/flavor. I rotate between this and the Supreme for my morning tea, but it's great any time of day. It doesn't really need sugar either since it does have a natural sweetness. I've since bought the 1-pound bag. I'm very particular about my black tea, and this is a keeper.

This review is based on loose tea received in October 2015. Nothing added to the cup.

The fine folk at Harney may think my orders are for more than one person because I enjoy trying different teas and follow no discernable pattern.

The description of Kangaita OP is intriguing so I gave it a go. What a pleasant surprise!

As the Harney description notes, orthodox African teas are uncommon. This one nicely captures the subtle multi-layered flavors that process can provide. The malty, toasty primary taste is balanced first by very pleasant citrus and then gentle spice for a very overall impression. An excellent value.

I really look forward to it in my regular rotation!

Couldn't think of a word to describe this surprisingly lovely tea...I love the lemony spice notes...it is a great breakfast tea alone and surprisingly, tastes great with milk and a bit -o- honey. This Kenyan OP is outstanding and I hope Harney and Sons restock these because I just bought the last one!
