Our Review
Bancha is a summer tea made after the Sencha season. Because there is so much of this inexpensive tea, an innovative Kyoto tea merchant thought to combine the the two staples of the Japanese diet, bringing Genmaicha into existance. Once considered a cheap peasant beverage, Genmaicha has recently come into vogue among the Japanese urban elite.

Genmaicha

A different sort of Japanese tea that many find intriguing. Rice kernels are added while the green leaves are being dried, so the kernels get crispy and some burst open. The genmaicha has a unique appearance and a pleasant roasted flavor.

A Pleasing Broth! Review by Bobbie
Average Review:
I have used Genmaicha tea for years as a base stock for my Chicken and Rice Soup...what an amazing flavor it lends to this soup! In fact I have almost converted all of my chicken stock recipes/soup bases to contain all or at least a mixture of 1/2 Genmaicha tea and 1/2 stock. Try it, you won't be disappointed! And the health benefits...a bonus! (Posted on 12/21/14)

A unique tea, and definitely worth a try for both connoisseurs of green tea and those who don't normally enjoy vegetal flavours Review by Shannon
Average Review:
I bought this in the first big variety I ordered from Harney's. This is SUCH a wonderful tea, especially in the afternoon or evening. The tea has such a complex flavour and scent from the toasted rice, and it is so unique amongst green tea.
Best part, my partner, who is not a fan of vegetal flavours, really enjoys this green tea. It is very surprising to see him ask for it, and he has complimented the unique toasted flavours time and again. Highly recommend for anyone looking for something a little different (and enjoyable!) Fun choice for green tea newbies Review by Niki A
Average Review:
The toasted rice really complements the green tea for a really pleasant experience. Wonderful aroma and toasted flavor. I could see someone new to green tea liking this one because it is not as vegetal tasting as some of the other green teas which some people might not like. (Posted on 6/9/14)

My favorite green tea. Review by Ashely
Average Review:
I have the pleasure of trying this green tea recently and it is beyond amazing. The aroma oddly reminds me of camp fire, as it is warm and comforting, but the taste is something no other green tea can compare too. It is unique and that is what I love about it. This will become a staple of my tea collection. (Posted on 3/9/14)

Classic Japanese restaurant tea. Review by Spike Sagal
Average Review:
This is the kind of tea you would find in a typical Japanese restaurant in NYC. Rich, green color. Nice balance of tea and toasted rice flavors. Ok for second brewing, though the rice flavor becomes overpowering. This is a strong-tasting tea, so it's good to have with any kind of food. (Posted on 7/23/13)

Average Review:
This tea is quite possibly the best cup of tea I have ever had.

The melding of the green tea and rice creates a flavor so fantastic that i found myself at a loss for words. (Posted on 4/15/13)

Genmaicha Review by Benjamin
Average Review:
I picked up this tea on a whim based on the look of it and I couldn't be happier. It has a unique flavor that is very hard to explain. Its delicious and makes for an great conversation starter when people see it for the first time. A great intro to green tea for newcomers and a staple tea for me. (Posted on 12/2/12)

Genmaicha Review by Gail

This is one of my favorite teas. I have had genmaicha from other companies and this is the best. Great with meals, or when you want a light cup of tea. (Posted on 9/13/12)

Nice comforting tea Review by Scott
Average Review:
Many years ago, I tried Genmaicha, and did not like it. Not only have my tastes changed but how I brew tea. Now I realize I didn't like this tea because I overbrewed it (boiling; steep 3 min). I loved this sample, dumping the enire packet in a glass teapot with multiple short steeps worked for me.I loved the toastiness of the rice and the mellow Bancha (180 D for 45 sec). Four quality steeps, my only complaint is with myself for letting this tea get cold. For me it was not good cold (Posted on 9/13/12)
