Our Review
People have loved the flavor of vanilla for some time. We find vanilla to be very useful in many blends, so please enjoy this singularly delicious blend.

Vanilla Black

A natural sweetness and rich flavor makes Vanilla Black tea an irresistible delight. Its aroma awakens memories of baking sugar cookies with your grandmother. (For our decaf version, please see Vanilla Comoro).

Rich vanilla flavor Review by Barbara
Average Review:
I bought a one-pound bag from my local merchant a couple of months ago after a year or more keeping smaller tins on my shelf. It's one of my "Sunday morning" teas, with its smooth sweet aroma and mildness. (I'm not a fan of highly astringent tea.) After reading Susan C's review I'm wondering whether I got one of the last bags available before the processing change.I am very fond of this tea, with a bit of honey or even maple syrup to bring out the vanilla, and a good dollop of milk.

i may have to order a sample before restocking to learn whether I can detect a change. (Posted on 2/13/16)

New Natural Flavoring Very Dissapointing Review by Susan C
Average Review:
Just received a 1 pound bag of Vanilla Black Tea. It and the Vanilla Comoro) are a staple in our house. It smelled differently and tasted terrible. Customer Service explained that Harney changed a couple months ago to natural rather than artificial flavoring. We won't be buying either of these teas again and will perhaps no other teas (such as Paris if it now tastes different). Very disappointed ans sad to loose my favorite tea and tea shop. very warm & welcoming scent Review by Shanna
Average Review:
This tea is one of my favorites. The vanilla is a nice subtle vanilla with a hint of something that is reminiscent of the scent you pick up when walking into a leather or cigar shop. It's very subtle, warm, earthy and actually quite nice. I really love it! Not artificial tasting at all which is the problem with a lot of flavored teas I've tried. If you're a fan of vanilla this is a must try! (Posted on 3/8/15)

Bad Batch?? Review by Jesus
Average Review:
Like other reviews noted this tea is very thin, it has a very light mouthfeel kind of like a keemun. Has a very very light (watery) flavor almost like a tea that was already steeped, very disappointing, it has a very very small amount of what could be interpreted as vanilla...maybe.

The other reviewer noted a strong aftertaste, mine had literally none, not really surprising given the lack of initial flavor. The smell of the tea is slightly more vanilla, but seems like there are some other scents thrown in there as well, it's not really a pure vanilla scent. Scent is most evident in the dry leaves, when steeped it becomes very very light, you have to hold your nose within an inch or two of the top of the cup to smell it and even then it's not terribly strong.

And of course the tea has pretty much no resteep value...not much initial steep value either. Given the contrast to the other reviews it might lead me to believe I got old stock or a bad batch as I can't see how anyone could review a tea like this positively. SO YMMV..

The last vanilla tea i tried from a different company had about 1000x more smell (almost too much), still didn't have much flavor but certainly more than this one.

Upside is it has caffeine!! Everything else is terribly disappointing. ( especially because I really was in the mood for a vanilla tea :( ) (Posted on 12/9/14)

subtle vanilla flavor Review by N.K
Average Review:
It's a slightly different from Vanilla Comoro. Vanilla tea has more subtle than Vanilla comoro and has its own unique flavor. I wonder what specific China tea HnS uses for this Vanilla tea(I assume the company uses Keemun though) Usually Vanilla tea gets along with milk weel but this tea wasn't good with milk at all. Wonderful tea Review by Corinna
Average Review:
I'd never heard of this tea until I saw it at the grocery store a few days ago. I was a little nervous because of the flavoring, I expected it to be very strong. The first thing I noticed was how good the tea smelled - it's very light with just a hint of vanilla and even something that reminds me a little of tobacco. The tea tastes incredible with a little sugar, I didn't think it needed any milk. The vanilla flavor is very subtle and more of an aftertaste. It also doesn't taste like the overly-sweet vanilla you'd find in coffee. This is probably one of the best, if not the best, teas I've ever tried. I would definitely recommend it! (Posted on 8/23/11)

Wonderful Review by Lauren
Average Review:
This tea is wonderful on it's own. Smells great when it's brewing and has a very light vanilla taste, even when I leave the sachet in for a very long time. It has such a great aftertaste, that is really when you can taste the vanilla. (Posted on 3/4/11)

Great iced, too! Review by Ruth
Average Review:
I bought this after I fell in love with Vanilla Comoro, a Harney decaf offering that really is a true dessert tea. The vanilla flavor is not as strong in this one, but I use it differently, too. Vanilla Comoro is really my night-time and instead of a slice of cake tea! Best of all, this one is great iced, so I can have good tea even in the heat and humidity here. Since it is not as strongly flavored as my beloved Comoro, it pairs well with our afternoon tea time foods. There is a place for BOTH teas on the shelf! (Posted on 6/8/10)
