Our Review
Being a frugal people, the Japanese let nothing go to waste while making green tea. The tea stalks which might be discarded in other tea regions have been harnessed to make a pleasant tea. Since it is made from the stems and twigs of the tea plant there is less caffeine, amino acids, and antioxidants to give flavor and add benefits to the brew.
Dry Leaves This is a mixture of green stems and yellow twigs from tea plants in Japan.
Liquor This is a very light green.
Aroma Because the green stems are from good tea bushes, there are hints of Sencha with woody undertones. Although the stems are similar to Hojicha, these twigs are not roasted.
Caffeine Level Caffeinated
Body The body of Kukicha can only be described as light.
Flavors Kukicha has a light vegetal flavors from the remaining stems and some woody notes from the twigs.
Brewing Time 1 to 2 minutes
Brewing Temperature 160° F

Kukicha

Like Hojicha, this tea utilizes parts of the plant that might not be used in other tea regions. The resourceful Japanese have made a tea that has a bit of a cult following, and enjoy its mellow flavor and low levels of caffeine. It is used in macrobiotic diets.

Tasty yet forgiving.
Average Review:

I love green tea and drink it everyday but some days it can be very hard on my stomach. Luckily this tea has an answer. This is one of the most gentle green teas I have ever tasted, great for the days when you need something light for your stomach. Yet another favorite of mine.

Lovely
Average Review:

I'm not a huge fan of green teas, but I really enjoy this one. It's fairly forgiving to make - you don't have to watch every second of the brewing. It's not bitter like some greens. It has a delicate spinach-ey flavor and marine-like aroma. I'm not getting much "thickness" like some greens, but it's still a lovely experience.

My favorite Harney & Sons green tea!
Average Review:

The flavor is very similar to Harney's Japanese Sencha, so close it's difficult to tell them apart. I love them both but like Kukicha slightly more, and with the lower caffeine I can drink it close to bedtime.
