It is officially summer and we are hot. Like, super hot. As much as we love sipping on our warm teas throughout the day, we have come to terms with the fact that the temperatures outside do not allow us to drink them comfortably anymore. If you’re a hot tea drinker and can empathize with us, this blog post is for you. Follow these 5 easy steps to making the perfect pitcher of iced tea and you can turn every Harney tea blend, even your favorite hot teas, into a refreshing summer drink.
How to Make Iced Tea
- Choose your favorite Harney tea and put it into your strainer.
- Pour hot water over your tea and brew it to double strength.
- While your tea is brewing, prepare your garnishes. We love using citrus and mint!
- Fill your pitcher with ice and your chosen garnishes.
- Strain your tea and pour into pitcher.
Enjoy!

I love the idea of adding fresh fruit! When I brew iced tea, I typically double the amount of tea used. This is because the tea will melt your ice, diluting the tea. So if you normally use 4 tea bags for a batch of hot tea, use 8 tea bags if you plan on serving iced.

Double strength is extra strong, made using twice the amount of tea leaves. The ice will dilute it to the recommended strength.

What does brew double strength – twice as much tea leaves? or twice as long?

Double-strength = twice as much dry tea per unit of water, compared to how you like your hot tea. Make sure there’s still room for it to expand; a tea ball designed for a cup won’t be big enough, but you can let the leaves be free and just strain when it’s done brewing.
(I like to overbrew mine by letting it go longer, as well, but that’s not at all proper! ;))

What do you mean by double strength, tho? Like, are we using more water or fewer leaves, here?
