China Trip Enshi

I have been to many parts of China, so I assumed that I pretty much knew China. Good to see at 62, I can still learn. Enshi is a city located in western Hubei Province. 6 hours by bullet train from Changsha. So far removed from the China I know. It is a pretty location, up, in the hills that become mountains. Far from any industry, The tea grows among flowering potatoe plants. Potatoes are eaten morning, noon, and night in Enshi, that warmed the heart of this Irishman.

We visited the largest and most modern tea factory. It makes tons and tons of matcha. China, like the States, is in the midst of a matcha craze. All of that “matcha” is drunk in China. I did not find it any where as good as the Matcha we get from Uji, Japan.

While Enshi, we did buy something some specialty teas. We did find a green tea that was quite tasty. It is made from the same tea plant that Lung Ching comes from, and an tiny orange filled with black tea. My wife had mentioned that type of tea for a few years.  So I was happy to get that off my bucket list.
