How it works
Four steps, and the first one takes two minutes
-
01
Apply in about two minutes
Business name, EIN, business type, a monthly volume estimate, and how to reach you. That is the whole form.
-
02
Fast-track review
Applications that arrive during business hours are usually reviewed the same business day. We check the EIN and the business type, and you hear back by email either way, approved or with the one question we still need answered.
-
03
Log in and order at wholesale pricing
Approved accounts order right here on harney.com. Same catalog, same cart, your wholesale pricing applied at checkout. Add matcha to an order with the rest of your tea list and it ships together.
-
04
Your first order, $25 off
Your approval email carries a single-use code for $25 off your first wholesale matcha order.
Why there are no prices on this page
Wholesale pricing is set by grade, format, and volume, so one number on a public page would be wrong for almost everyone reading it. Rather than make you request a quote and wait, we put the whole price list inside your account. Apply, and your pricing is visible the moment you are approved.
Nothing is negotiated over email before you can see a number, and there is nothing to clear before we will talk to you. First wholesale orders have a $150 minimum.
The range
Every grade, and what it is for
Matcha grade is about fit, not rank. A bulk bag built for a brownie batter is doing a different job than a single cultivar tin whisked to order. Here is how each grade maps to real use.

Culinary Matcha

Organic Everyday Matcha

| Grade | Best for | In the cup | Wholesale formats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Culinary Matcha | Baking, ice cream, chocolate, syrups, and anything where matcha meets sugar and heat | Built to hold its color and body through the recipe | 1 lb bulk bag |
| Organic Everyday Matcha | High volume lattes, iced drinks, and smoothies, at a cup cost that works on a daily menu | Clean and grassy, steady in milk. USDA Organic | 1 lb bulk bag |
| Supreme Matcha | Barista grade. Whisked and steamed drinks where the matcha is the point | Smoother in milk than a culinary grade, and the grade to pour when a guest orders matcha by name | 80 g tin |
| Jobetsugi | Ceremonial, thin (usucha). Traditional preparation and by-the-bowl service | A single cultivar, sold under its own name | 30 g and 80 g tins |
| Senjunomukashi | Ceremonial, thick (koicha). Premium pours that need more body | Fuller and rounder, built for thick preparation | 30 g tin |
| Unjonotomo | Ceremonial, extra thick. Koicha service, tasting flights, and menus built around provenance | The thickest of our three cultivars | 30 g tin |
| Matcha Concentrate | Foodservice speed. Pour, pull, or pump | Consistent lattes and iced matcha at rush, with no whisk station and no clumping | Half gallon |

Behind the bar
How barista grade matcha actually performs
A matcha that tastes lovely in a tasting room and clumps on a Saturday morning is the wrong matcha. Here is what to expect on a working bar.
Sourcing and supply
A supply you can plan around
Matcha supply has been tight across the industry, and the question every buyer is really asking is whether we can cover the next order. We hold allocation with our Japanese partners and carry depth on the core grades in our own warehouse in Millerton, New York, so reorders ship domestically instead of waiting on a container crossing an ocean.
-
Jobetsugi
Thin grade (usucha)
-
Senjunomukashi
Thick grade (koicha)
-
Unjonotomo
Extra thick
- Shade grown in Japan and selected cultivar by cultivar, not bought as an anonymous commodity lot.
- Jobetsugi, Senjunomukashi, and Unjonotomo are single cultivar and stone milled, which is why they are sold under their own names.
- Every lot is tasted in Millerton before it is released, the same way John Harney tasted every tea he sold.
- Planning a menu launch or a seasonal push? Tell your account contact early and we will plan inventory around it.
Who we supply
Matcha programs for every kind of house
Cafés and coffee shops
Matcha for coffee shops has to survive volume. Same color, same body, and the same cup cost on a Tuesday morning as on a Saturday at eleven. The half gallon concentrate keeps the bar moving when the line is out the door.
1 lb bulk bags · 80 g tins · half gallon concentrate · whisks
Restaurants and hotels
Harney & Sons has roots in hospitality. John Harney came to tea around 1970 through Stanley Mason of Sarum Teas, while he was managing partner of the White Hart Inn in Salisbury, Connecticut, serving his own blends to guests there. He bought Sarum and founded Harney & Sons in 1983. We still build tea programs the way a service team needs them.
50-count sachet bags · 1 lb bulk bags · ceremonial tins for tableside service
Grocery and specialty retail
Retail-ready tins and bags that hold their own on shelf, from a name American customers have been buying for over four decades. Order matcha alongside the rest of the line so one purchase order covers the set, and one delivery restocks it.
30 g and 80 g tins · 1 lb bulk bags
Food and beverage makers
Culinary matcha for bakeries, gelato and ice cream producers, chocolate makers, and beverage brands. Ground for color and body that carries through heat, sugar, and dairy, and held in bulk in Millerton so a production run is not waiting on a container.
1 lb bulk bags · larger volumes quoted on request
Private label and co-brand
We blend, package, and ship under your brand, using the same sourcing network and blending team behind our co-branded work with Historic Royal Palaces, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Colonial Williamsburg, and Agatha Christie Ltd. Start from our existing matcha grades or develop something to your spec.
Custom tins, bags, sachets, and cases · existing grades or custom blends
The whole program
One supplier for the whole matcha program
Powder is where a matcha program starts, and it is rarely where it ends. A café needs speed at rush, a hotel needs something a guest can steep in a room, and a retailer needs something with a barcode on it. Because matcha sits inside a catalog of over 300 varieties, you can cover all of it on one purchase order, from one account.
- Matcha Concentrate in half gallon jugs, for lattes and iced drinks at volume.
- Flavored matchas in 1 lb bulk bags, including White Peach and Very Berry, with more of the flavored range available on request.
- Matcha iri Genmaicha in 50-count sachet bags for room service, banquet, and in-room, with more matcha sachets available on request.
- Whisks and matcha accessories to outfit a bar or a retail endcap. Ask your account contact for the current wholesale accessory list.
- The rest of the Harney & Sons line on the same account and the same invoice.
Questions
Before you apply
Do I need a business to open a wholesale account?
Yes. Wholesale pricing is for businesses reselling or serving our tea, so we ask for an EIN and a business type on the application. If you are outside the United States, tick the box on the form and give your local business or tax registration number instead.
Why can I not see wholesale prices before I apply?
Pricing is set by grade, format, and volume, so a single public number would be wrong for most buyers. Your full price list appears inside your account as soon as you are approved, with no quote to request and no back and forth first.
How fast is approval?
Applications that arrive during business hours are usually reviewed the same business day. Applications that arrive overnight, on a weekend, or on a holiday are reviewed the next business day. Either way you hear back by email, approved or with the one question we still need answered.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes. Your first wholesale order has a $150 minimum. Freight terms depend on the account and the formats you carry, and your rep will confirm them before your first order. There is no minimum to apply or to see your pricing.
How does the $25 first-order credit work?
Your approval email carries a single-use code for $25 off your first wholesale matcha order. Apply it at checkout on harney.com once you are signed in to your wholesale account.
Can we put our own brand on it?
Yes. We blend, package, and ship under partner brands, either from our existing matcha grades or as a custom blend developed to your spec. Mention private label in the notes on the application and the right person will pick it up.
What documentation can you provide?
Spec sheets, allergen information, and our organic and Fair Trade certifications are available to account holders, and our wholesale team can tell you exactly which documents cover which SKU. Ask for what your compliance file needs and we will send it.
Can we taste it before we apply?
Yes. Every matcha on this page is also sold in retail tins and bags on harney.com, so you can evaluate any grade on your own equipment before you apply. If you already know the profile you are after, skip the step and apply. We do not offer a formal wholesale sample kit yet.
