Description

Hot Cinnamon Spice is a black tea blended with three types of cinnamon, orange peel, and sweet cloves. John Harney, our founder, created it in our early years, and it has been the tea most people discover us through ever since. It is bold and warming, with a sweet-spicy character and no added sugar or sweeteners. The sweetness comes from the spices themselves.

It brews a medium-bodied cup, medium brown with orange hues, and holds up beautifully to a splash of milk. It is just as good over ice. You may also know it as Hot Cinnamon Sunset: it is the same tea, and the name changes only on some of our packaging.

Each wrapped teabag holds about 1.8 grams of tea, more than the 1.5 grams in a typical teabag. That is 90 grams of tea in every box of 50.

Each box contains 50 teabags.
Each teabag brews one 6-8 oz. cup of tea.
Each teabag is individually wrapped, making it perfect for travel or sharing with a friend!

Hot Cinnamon Spice also comes as loose tea, in sachets, and in tea pods. See every size and format.

Details: This is one of our oldest flavored tea blends. John Harney developed it in the early 1980s. Over the decades, its popularity has only grown, and now it is our most popular tea. People love its combination of strong spices and sweetness. And since there are no sugars (we tested it), it is safe for everyone to enjoy.
Dry Leaves: Chinese black tea is the base of this tea, so the leaves are dark brown. There are pieces of cinnamon bark and orange peel covered with cinnamon dust.
Liquor: The liquor of this tea is medium brown with orange hues.
Aroma: This tea has a very strong aroma of spices and citrus.
Flavors: Wow! This tea is one of our most flavorful (and popular) teas, combining orange with natural cinnamon, natural and artificial cinnamon flavors, and cloves.
 Caffeine Level: Caffeinated
Body: Medium-bodied. This tea fills your mouth with a melange of spices.
 Brewing Time: 5 minutes
 Brewing Temp: 212º

Four Decades of Tradition

In 1983, John Harney set out to make tea an everyday luxury, hand-blending his first teas in the basement of his country inn in Salisbury, Connecticut.
Three generations later, we still follow his one rule: only buy and blend teas that make us smile. Today we blend more than 300 of them from a home base in Millerton, New York, where the third generation is adding blends of its own.

The Tea Customers Come Back For

Hot Cinnamon Spice is one of our defining blends. John Harney blended it in the company's early years from three kinds of cinnamon, orange peel, and sweet cloves, with no added sugar anywhere in it. It tastes sweet because the spices are doing the talking. Decades later it is still the tea most people discover us through, and still the one we are asked about most.

How to Enjoy It

Hot Cinnamon Spice is bold and naturally sweet, with no sugar added. Here is how we make it when we want it at its best.

Water

Start with fresh spring or filtered water. It's nearly everything in the cup, and even a tea this bold takes on whatever's in the tap.

Hot

With its black tea base, you'll want to use boiling water (212ºF). Steep 5 minutes so the cinnamon, orange, and cloves have time to come forward.

  • 1 teabag per 8 oz cup

Iced

Brew it double strength, twice the tea for the same water, then pour straight over a tall glass of ice. It holds its spice as it dilutes instead of washing out.

Common questions

What does Hot Cinnamon Spice taste like?

Bold and warming, with a sweet-spicy character from three types of cinnamon, orange peel, and sweet cloves over a black tea base. The aroma is full of spice and citrus, and it brews a medium-bodied cup, medium brown with orange hues.

Does Hot Cinnamon Spice have sugar in it?

No. There is no added sugar and no sweetener in it. The sweetness you taste comes from the spices themselves, so try a cup plain before you reach for the sugar.

How do I brew a Hot Cinnamon Spice teabag?

Use one teabag for a 6 to 8 oz. cup. Pour freshly boiled water (212°F) over the teabag, steep for 5 minutes, and then remove it. Enjoy it plain or with a splash of milk. For iced tea, brew it double strength and pour it over a tall glass of ice.

How much tea is in each teabag?

About 1.8 grams. The box of 50 holds 90 grams of tea in all (3.17 oz., as printed on the box), which is more than the 1.5 grams a typical teabag holds. Each teabag is individually wrapped, so it is easy to tuck into a bag for work or travel, or to share with a friend.

Does Hot Cinnamon Spice have caffeine?

Yes. It is a black tea, with about 40 to 60 mg of caffeine per teabag, the figure printed on the box. For less caffeine, try our Decaf Hot Cinnamon, a decaffeinated black tea, or our Herbal Hot Cinnamon Spice, a caffeine-free rooibos blend.

Is Hot Cinnamon Spice the same as Hot Cinnamon Sunset?

Yes. They are the same tea. The name changes only on some of our packaging, so a tin or pouch labeled Hot Cinnamon Sunset holds the same blend as this box.
