Origami Teacup & Saucer

Origami Teacup & Saucer

Looking for something to do these days? Ever tried origami? You’ve got everything you need right at home. Fold following these instructions, then snap a pic and share on social media using #HarneyOrigami to show us your creaTEAvity!

MATERIALS

  • 6”x6” origami paper, 4 pieces
  • Tape

TEACUP

1. Place your paper’s decorative side face down on the table.

2. Fold your paper in half, forming a triangle.

3. Fold the left corner of the triangle toward a point roughly 1/3 of the way between the top corner and the right corner.

4. Fold the right corner of the triangle toward a point roughly 1/3 of the way between the top corner and the right corner.  You made a five-sided polygon!

5. At the point, separate the top layer of paper from the bottom. Fold that piece of paper down, creasing at the horizontal fold below.
6. Flip the paper over and repeat step 5.

7. Pop open and flatten the bottom by folding the two bottom points inward.

HANDLE

1. Taking two new pieces of origami paper, cut one ½ inch wide strip of paper from each.

2. Overlap the ends of the two strips forming a 90-degree angle and tape together.

3. Fold one strip tightly over the other, then fold the other strip across the fold you just made.
4. Continue folding the strips onto each other until an accordion has formed.
5. Attach the handle to your cup. Use tape to secure.

SAUCER

1. Place paper on the table with its pattern facing up.

2. Fold your paper in half, forming a rectangle.
3. Open the paper back up, flip the design side down and fold one half into the crease.
4. Fold the other half into the crease.
5. Fold in half.
6. Open back up.
7. Fold in each corner until it meets the horizontal crease.
8. Fold in half along the crease, creating a trapezoid.
9. Pop open, forming a boat, and fold the top two corners into the boat, forming a six-sided polygon.
10. Flip over.
11. Fold the right side in half and inward, meeting the centerfold.
12. Repeat step 11 on the left side.
13. Flip over and pop open!
14. Place your teacup inside and voila!

Amazingly creative. I did origami in the 60s when living in Japan, but not this elaborate.
Will master and use as party favors with my tea friends. Thank you.

Love it! What a fun activity to do while still stuck at home. Think I’ll make a few and send to my tea friends. Thanks!
