Keep Calm and Harney On

So… there’s kinduva lot going on in the world right now. Our Harney family of employees and you, our customers, are all impacted in one way or another. There’s no sugarcoating that these are trying and stressful times.

While we’re not experts on some of the bigger issues facing our world today, we are very much experts at one thing: tea. And what we know for sure about tea is that there’s something very calming about the ritual of making and enjoying a cuppa. So, if you’re like us, you’ve got tea to keep you company while you social distance and binge watch “Downton Abbey” or “The Crown” or “Naked and Afraid.” Hey, a little escapism is definitely in order.

Herbals Rule the Calming Scene

Herbal teas are naturals at inducing calm and reducing stress. Naturally caffeine-free, these tisanes (herbal teas aren’t derived from thecamellia sinensis tea plant; they’re actually not teas, but don’t tell them that!) are chock full of calming properties like chamomile (Chamomile,  Garden Therapy Herbal), peppermint (Peppermint Herbal,  Mint Verbena), lavender (Yellow & Blue,  French Super Blue Lavender), lemon balm (Lemon Herbal), rose (Mother’s Bouquet,  Indigo Punch), liquorice (Ginger Liquorice) and turmeric (Organic Ginger Turmeric).

One of our newest teas is  Chaga Wonder, a blend containing ashwagandha-- an Ayurvedic herb known to help combat stress and fatigue-- as well as chamomile, wild Canadian Chaga mushroom, lavender, lemon balm, spearmint and hemp leaves. It’s like the mayor of calm city.

CBD Teas FTW!

Our sister company, The Hemp Division, offers a variety of CBD teas made from our home-grown hemp plants. CBD is an all-natural product that delivers a calm, body-relaxing experience. From our  bottled teas to  hot teas, you can find the CBD level that’s right for you. We also offer a variety of  CBD tinctures,  lotions and sundries to immerse yourself in an all-body state of calm. There’s even a  peppermint CBD bath ball. You literally couldn’t immerse yourself further into tranquility.

Go Green

While green teas have high levels of caffeine, they have other properties like high levels of polyphenols that have been found to combat anxiety and stress. There are many proven health benefits to drinking green tea, and with its higher levels of caffeine it’s perfect for when you want to be chill and still get things done. Try a classic like  Jasmine, a flavored green tea like  Blueberry Green, or one of our founder’s favorites,  Japanese Sencha.

Comfort Tea

Sometimes the things that make us feel the most calm and secure are those comfort items that we love, like a favorite sweatshirt or blanket or bowl of ice cream. What’s your comfort tea? Is it something chocolate, like  Chocolate Mint,  Chocolate Chai or just straight up  Chocolate tea? If vanilla’s your thing, then you probably turn to the smooth, creamy taste of  Decaf Vanilla Comoro, which wasn’t nicknamed “Blankie” in our recent Harney Hoopla game for no reason! If you can’t imagine a day without a cuppa  Earl Grey,  Paris,  English Breakfast or  Hot Cinnamon Spice, then you do you! You know what your go-to tea is to get you through your day.

Enjoy the Ritual

Part of the beauty of tea is the act of brewing a pot. If you’re used to making tea with tea bags or sachets, we encourage you to take the time to brew a pot of tea using loose tea. Taking the time to heat the teapot with hot water while the kettle’s on, then pouring the water into the warmed teapot and letting the tea leaves expand and unleash their flavor, then the beauty of pouring the tea into your mug and watching the steam rise… there’s something very soothing about the process, like time just slows down.

Brewing tea is easy, but if you’re nervous, check out our  Tea Brewing Guide to get started. Or, if you don’t need one more thing on your plate to stress you out, you should enjoy the comfort of making a delicious cup of tea one sachet or tea bag at a time. After all, the point is to Keep Calm and Harney On! And to help you do that, we’ve created a free downloadable poster to display as a reminder.

Your teas supply the right amount of joy and comfort while working from home. I look forward to a cuppa several times a day for a much needed break from working with an affected public. We’ll get through this—together.
