Our Review
Our Founder, John Harney, thought very fondly of Elaine Cogan of Portland, Oregon. They were both tea enthusiasts in the early 1980s, throwing bombs against the established order of boring tea served poorly. Decades later, he asked her to do a tea. This is the refreshing result.
Dry Leaves The Ceylon and Darjeeling provide some hints of green and gold in this blend of black teas.
Liquor A medium brown liquor.
Aroma The muted notes of cocoa, honey, citrus and malt combine for a mellow tea.
Caffeine Level Caffeinated
Body A smooth bodied tea.
Flavors The fours teas: Darjeeling, Assam, Keemun and Ceylon, combine to a smooth tea that is refreshing at any time. Try it with a splash of milk.
Brewing Time 4 to 5 minutes
Brewing Temperature 212° F

Elaine's Blend

Elaine's Blend – a uniquely refreshing combination of fine Darjeeling, Keemun, Ceylon and Assam teas – was created by Elaine Cogan, a colleague of John Harney for many years. Little did Elaine realize she was launching the tea revolution when her complaints about the poor quality of restaurant tea were printed in the New York Times back in 1983. In response, the Times printed an editorial entitled "Tea Snobs and Coffee Bigots." John Harney and Elaine soon became friends and spread the word about tea. They were pleasantly surprised and gratified to witness tea's newfound popularity, and the American public's ensuing demand for fine tea.

Lovely
Average Review:

Mellow and fragrant -I thought I detected hints of jasmine a couple of times, but it doesn't say so. Very good. Would buy again. Ounce for ounce, a better deal than the HT English Breakfast that I chose when I compared all H&S English (& Scottish & Irish) Breakfasts, and the taste beats it by a hair.

A Satisfying, Affordable, & Elegant Blend
Average Review:

This tea blend always provides a satisfying cup at an affordable price, and for a blend, it also has some elegance about it. --A fine everyday tea, that I turn to many mornings of the week.
