What does spearmint tea do for the body?
Spearmint is rich in polyphenols and has traditionally been enjoyed as a caffeine-free way to unwind or settle the stomach after a meal. Some studies have looked at spearmint's role in general wellness, but the evidence is still developing, and we do not make specific health claims about our tea. If you are drinking it for a particular condition, talk to your doctor first.
What's in Harney & Sons Spearmint?
Just spearmint. It is a single-ingredient tisane of roughly cut spearmint leaves, so what you taste is the plant itself. It brews a light brown, light-bodied cup with a bright, fresh, minty aroma. We started offering it on its own after customers who found spearmint in our blends began asking for it by itself.
Does spearmint tea have caffeine?
No. Spearmint is an herbal tisane, not a true tea, so it is naturally caffeine-free. That makes it a good choice for an evening cup, or any time you are cutting back on caffeine and still want something warm in hand.
How do I brew spearmint tea, hot or iced?
For a hot cup, steep the leaves in freshly boiled water (212º) for 5 minutes. For iced, use twice the leaf you would for a hot cup, steep the same way, and pour it straight over ice; the extra leaf keeps the flavor full as the ice melts. We offer spearmint on its own so its fresh flavor can be enjoyed either way.
Is spearmint tea the same as peppermint tea?
No, though they are close cousins in the mint family. Spearmint is milder and sweeter, with a bright, fresh aroma and a light body. Peppermint is bolder and more bracing, and ours comes from Oregon. Try both: spearmint for a gentle everyday cup, Organic Peppermint when you want something brisker.
