Amba Estate sits in the hills of central Sri Lanka, an old tea garden that Simon Bell and his partners have restored as an experiment in rejuvenating Sri Lankan tea making. We visited Amba and came away convinced it's a little gem. The estate is worked by a group of Sri Lankan men and women who make genuinely unusual teas by hand, hand-rolling the leaves in a way that yields a lighter, big-leaf cup. That handwork carries a mission, too: Amba is committed to empowering women in the tea industry, and your purchase helps support the livelihoods of the people who craft it.
