Description

High in the mountains, deep in the mists that surround the Himalayas, is Darjeeling, "Queen of Teas." Our Darjeeling is a blend of 1st flush and autumnal teas from the best gardens, made to honor a reputation more than 150 years in the making while staying reasonably priced. A great value.

Each harvest brings something different. The 1st flush gives the blend its brightness, pineapple and grapefruit on the nose and citrus in the cup. The autumnal teas add depth, with softer notes of apricot and plum. It brews a light golden liquor with a medium body and a fragrant nose.

For a single-garden cup, explore our estate Darjeelings.

Beginning on August 27, 2026, Elyse Harney has committed 50% of sales of Nepalese and Darjeeling teas to the Nepalese Red Cross via the American Red Cross.

Details: Darjeeling has developed a good reputation among tea drinkers for over 150 years, so we wanted something that would respect that tradition—a blend that combined many esteemed qualities and was still reasonably priced. We offer better Darjeelings from the best estates in the Darjeeling region, but those teas can get quite expensive.
Dry Leaves: Small green leaves can be found in this Darjeeling blend (hard withered green flakes), along with larger brown leaves.
Liquor: This tea brews a light golden color.
Aroma: A good mixture of the bright aromas of a 1st flush Darjeeling, pineapple and grapefruit, and the darker stone fruit notes of autumnal Darjeelings.
Flavors: This tea delivers a good blend of bright citrus notes and darker notes of stone apricots and plums.
 Caffeine Level: Caffeinated
 Body: Medium-bodied
 Brewing Time: 4 minutes
 Brewing Temp: 212º

FAQ

What is Darjeeling tea?

Darjeeling is a black tea grown in the Darjeeling district of India, in the foothills of the Himalayas. Tea drinkers have prized it for more than 150 years, and it is often called the "Queen of Teas."

What are 1st flush and autumnal Darjeelings?

They are two harvests from the same gardens. The 1st flush is picked in spring and is bright and lively, with notes of pineapple and grapefruit. The autumnal teas are picked in the fall and are darker and mellower, with notes of apricot and plum. Our Darjeeling blends the two, so you get the brightness and the depth in one cup.

Why are there green leaves in my Darjeeling?

Those are the 1st flush leaves. 1st flush Darjeelings are lightly oxidized, so some of the leaves stay green even though this is a black tea. The larger brown leaves come from the autumnal harvest.

Does Darjeeling have caffeine?

Yes. It is a black tea, with about 40 to 60 mg of caffeine per cup.

Do you sell single-estate Darjeelings?

Yes. This blend is our everyday Darjeeling and a great value. For a cup from one garden and one harvest, explore our estate Darjeelings.
