Description

Peppermint Herbal is a single-ingredient herbal infusion, nothing but peppermint leaves grown in Washington State, which makes it about the only tea or tisane we offer from the USA. The cup is brisk, clean, and wonderfully aromatic, with a crisp mint finish and no caffeine at all.

One ingredient means nowhere to hide, so the leaf has to be excellent, and this one is. It is just as good chilled over ice in the hot months as it is steaming after dinner.

Our Tin of 30 Sachets is part of our collection with Historic Royal Palaces, an independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace, and Hillsborough Castle and Gardens.

Four Decades of Tradition

In 1983, John Harney set out to make tea an everyday luxury, hand-blending his first teas in the basement of his country inn in Salisbury, Connecticut.
Three generations later, we still follow his one rule: only buy and blend teas that make us smile. Today we blend more than 300 of them from a home base in Millerton, New York, where the third generation is adding blends of its own.

Grown in Washington State

Nearly everything we sell crosses an ocean to reach Millerton. Not this one. Our peppermint is grown in Washington State, where the fields produce some of the most aromatic mint anywhere, and it is about the only tea or tisane in our catalog that comes from the USA. Because the blend is a single ingredient, there is nothing to balance it against and nothing to hide behind. The leaf is the whole story, so we buy the best of the crop, and the cup comes out the way a peppermint should: brisk, clean, and cooling.

How to Enjoy It

Peppermint is a single ingredient doing all the work, which is exactly its charm. Here is how we brew it so the mint stays crisp instead of dull.

Water

Start with fresh spring or filtered water. With one ingredient in the cup, the water is half the recipe.

Hot

As an herbal infusion, you'll want water at a full boil (212ºF). Steep 5 minutes so the mint has room to open up.

  • 1 sachet per 12 oz mug
  • 1 teaspoon loose (2.5 g) per 8 oz cup

Iced

Brew it double strength, twice the tea for the same water, then pour straight over a tall glass of ice. Peppermint is made for this: the mint reads even cooler over ice, and a caffeine-free pitcher can go all day. Summers run hot where this mint grows, so a cold glass suits it.

Common questions

Does Peppermint Herbal have caffeine?

No. It is an herbal infusion made from peppermint leaves rather than tea leaves, so it is naturally caffeine-free.

Where does the peppermint come from?

Washington State, which makes this about the only tea or tisane we offer that is grown in the USA. The Northwest fields produce exceptionally aromatic mint and are the number one source worldwide.

What does it taste like?

Clean and brisk, with a cooling peppermint finish. There is exactly one ingredient, so the cup is as pure a mint experience as it gets.

How do I brew it?

Use fully boiling water at 212 degrees and steep for 5 minutes. Peppermint is forgiving, so a longer steep deepens the mint without turning it bitter.

Is it good iced?

Excellent. Brew it double strength and pour it over ice; the mint reads even cooler cold. It has long been the cup we chill for the hot months.

Can I drink it in the evening?

It is naturally caffeine-free, so it fits anywhere in the day, and a warm cup after dinner is a classic way to end a meal.

Is there an organic version?

Yes, our Organic Peppermint. Same idea, certified organic leaf, if that is what you are shopping for.
