Fresh Brew Iced Teas
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I brew iced tea with a Fresh Brew pouch, and how much does it make?
Steep one pouch in hot water for 15 minutes: a rolling boil for the black and herbal blends, 175°F for the green teas. Remove the pouch, add cold water to make 2 quarts, and chill the pitcher or pour it straight over ice. One pouch from a Bag of 15 Pouches, a Box of 3 Pouches, or a Tin of 6 Pouches makes 2 quarts; one pouch from a Box of 50 Pouches makes 1 gallon.
What is the difference between the Box of 50 Pouches and the smaller packs?
The pouch size. A pouch from the Box of 50 Pouches brews 1 gallon, double what a pouch from the smaller packs brews, so use twice the water with it. Blends such as Peach Fresh Brew Iced Tea and Organic Plain Black (Classic Black) Fresh Brew Iced Tea come both ways, and the Box of 50 is the pantry size for a house that keeps a pitcher going.
Which Fresh Brew blends are caffeine-free?
The herbal blends, which are made from fruit, flowers, and herbs rather than tea leaves: Blood Orange Fresh Brew Iced Tea, Indigo Punch Fresh Brew Iced Tea, Raspberry Herbal Fresh Brew Iced Tea, and Hibiscus Fresh Brew Iced Tea among them. The black teas and the green teas are caffeinated. Every listing says which it is.
How do I make sweet tea?
Brew the tea as usual and stir in sugar or honey while it is still hot, so it dissolves before the tea goes over ice. Start with less than you think and taste as you go. Lemon and a little honey, added before icing, is how we serve our Organic Plain Black (Classic Black) Fresh Brew Iced Tea.
How long does a pitcher of iced tea keep in the refrigerator?
Several days, with a lid on the pitcher so the tea does not pick up the smells around it. Brew a fresh pouch when the flavor starts to fade. If you would rather skip the kettle, cold brew it: put the pouch in cold water and leave the pitcher in the refrigerator for 6 to 12 hours.
Can I use Fresh Brew pouches for hot tea?
They are sized for a 2-quart pitcher, so they are made for iced tea. For a cup of hot tea, choose the loose leaf or sachet version of the blend; many of these blends come that way too, and the Fresh Brew listing links to it. Two notes: Hibiscus Fresh Brew Iced Tea is good hot or iced, and Indigo Punch Fresh Brew Iced Tea is blended with more hibiscus than the hot-tea Indigo Punch, so it brews redder.
